About this course: This course is about the birth control scope of practice in Illinois for pharmacists. This presentation will go over the Illinois law, in specific, along with the requirements to prescribe birth control. There will be a refresher of birth control options, including emergency contraception options with practice questions. Illinois law will be compared to surrounding states to see the difference in the scope of practice for pharmacists.

At the conclusion of this program, the pharmacist will be able to:

  1. Recall the scope of practice related to a pharmacist prescribing birth control.
  2. List patient information needed to accurately choose the best birth control option for patients.
  3. Identify good candidates for contraception use.
  4. Discuss Illinois laws that must be adhered to while prescribing contraception.
